Nokia 7710 review
Well heres the review that you guys have all been waiting for *not*. Anyways i have been using this phone for a good 2-3 month now and the verdict? "Not for everybody, but for those with special needs"
Ok ok, let me explain its not that the nokia has a overly strong vibration to massage me nor is it the blardy loud speakers equipped to the phone which makes it sound more amplified then anything else. Nope, its for none of those reasons that i have come to accept the nokia 7710. Keep reading.
It's a big phone. No doubt about that. At around 191g it is almost double the weight of your 8210 kinda itsy bitsy phones. But that doenst worry me. Why? Well basically from the time i decided i was going to buy the phone i made a good argument about how the phones size and weight wont matter too much since i commute pretty much 100% by car. Becuase of this i dont have to have it in my pocket for any overly long amounts of time, and becuase of this i can accept the phones size. If i was a "road warrior" you would never be reading this review. So thats 1 point for the 7710.
Since viewing a SonyEricsson s700 i knew i had to have a good display on my next phone. None of that 127X160 displays, ive had my fair share of crappy displays on a phone. I wanted the best. The display on the nokia 7710 displays a resolution of 640X320, thats higher then most pdas and works absolutely fantastic. I have never seen a better display on ANY phone fullstop. However the display does have a tinge of yellowness to the display which you get used to very quickly and in some cases seem appropriate as the yellowness makes it warmer and softer for the eye to view for an extended period of time. Thats 2 points for the 7710.
So why the extended period of time viewing a phone? Most people check their phones on average a few times a day for a few seconds a time. So why is the big display so advantageous? Well for me anyways i like to read Ebooks on it. I read Ebooks when im bored, before i sleep, waiting for my gf to put that last shine coating to her lips, in the toilete....you get the point. The display is perfect for reading books, in portrait format it can be very readable. This is proberbly my main reason why i wanted to get this phone. It has so far not let me down on the book reading side, and i really dont see how it can let me down on this aspect. 3 points for the 7710.
The 7710 comes standard with 90mb internal memory and also a 128mb MMC card. This was a huge bonus in the purchasing decision. Thats some serious memory for a phone straight out of the factory and with options to upgrade to 1gb mmc cards and more later. I didnt find a need for all that storage until...i came across a programe called picodrive. Basically its an emulator for the 7710 which emulates the sega megadrive/genisis consoles. Once i figured out how to get it working *please try and read a manual before doing anything, it might greatly save your time* i had a ball downloading all the roms i can find for it onto my phone, i have sonic 1,2,3, fatel fury, street fighter, raiden, outrun, testdrive, bomberman, etc etc, i currently have about 35 games on the phone, and all of them work quite well. Infact i have already finished the full game of bomberman on the phone. Just yesterday i have been trying to get Mapview GPSII to work on my phone and with the help of some sydney maps it should work perfectly fine. For people that dont know this is a map navigation software that ummm navigates you around. So 4 points to the 7710 for its versatile software list, however a note been that becuase it is running on S90 symbian software is much harder to acquire then the S60 symbian phones which is overloaded with software.

All is well. All is good. SO whats wrong with the blooming fantastic phone i hear you say loudly? Ok well, again it is a matter of perference whether you can live with these faults that im about to talk about. The phone is slow, SLOWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwww. I knew the phones OS *operating system* is going to be slow. I have read it over and over and over again on the review sites that its slow. Takes a few seconds to send a message and all that. frankly becuase of all that talking about slow i was surprised to find it WASN'T as slow as i thought, but thats pretty darn slow. As a general rule try not to stuff up the phone so you have to reset it. Becuase when you do it takes like 1 minute to reset. The phone is also a hog on battery life, in general with the usage i am putting it through which isnt a lot of phone talk activity it lasts 2 days on a full charge. No points there for the 7710.
So having everything said, the summary for this review is.
Pros::
- Large display
- Versatile do-it-all phone
- Futuristic styling
- Good if you have a specific need *ie reading books*
- Battery drain is quite abit as you would expect for such a large display
- SLOWWWWWWWWwww
- Big and bulky
